Holly Academy

Summary:

Holly Academy is a public magnet charter elementary and middle school located in Holly, Michigan, serving 586 students from kindergarten through 8th grade. The school has consistently been ranked among the top elementary schools in the state, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years.

Holly Academy stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with students consistently outperforming the state average in proficiency across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 5th-grade students at Holly Academy achieved 85.5% proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 44%. The school also has a more diverse racial makeup compared to many surrounding schools, such as Linden Elementary and Davisburg Elementary, and a lower percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch at around 26%, significantly lower than the Holly Area School District as a whole.

While Holly Academy's performance is particularly strong in English Language Arts, the school has also seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism rates, from 12.7% in 2018-2019 to 19.9% in 2022-2023. However, the school's instructional practices and support systems appear to be effectively serving subgroups like female students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with the school ranking among the top 14 elementary schools in Michigan for low-income students in the 2021-2022 school year. When compared to nearby schools, Holly Academy stands out as a high-performing institution, with its students consistently outperforming their peers in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote RACIST school! They called CPS on me with a LIE that I BRANDED my child with a Mexican gang symbol because I was in a Mexican GANG!! Close Quote

Open Quote Disappointed in they do not deliver on the stated mission they profess to. Not all kids are treated equal. The highest preforming kids are very highly regarded and they find ways of eliminating those they do not preform to their sought after test scores... In the 5 years we were there, I saw several kids that did poorly and were targeted as they only have to pass 80% of the students (as per an educator employed there.) Any school will do well when the children are prepped for the meap tests which they spend weeks doing.
The saddest part is that the kids that are "problems" and get kicked out of public schools are ending up there. Most have an IEP and it ties the hands of the Admin. to effectively deal with them. Would have been better if I did not have inside info to the goings on there and see what I saw. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
