Lake Region High School

Summary:

Lake Region High School is a public high school located in Naples, Maine, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 528 students. The school is part of the Regional School Unit 61/Maine School Admin District 61, which is ranked 113 out of 177 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Lake Region High School has a significantly higher percentage of white students (89.96%) compared to the state average and nearby schools, its overall performance has been relatively low. The school consistently ranks in the lower half of Maine high schools, with a ranking of 72 out of 123 schools in the 2022-2023 school year. Its four-year graduation rate has fluctuated, ranging from 83% to 89.3%, which is generally above the state average but lower than some of the nearby high schools, such as Windham High School and Gray-New Gloucester High School. Additionally, Lake Region High School has a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 29.9% to 31.7%, which is significantly higher than the state average and some of the nearby schools.

The school's performance on state assessments (MEA) is also a concern, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts (60.83%) and Science (41.18%) lower than the state and district averages, and its Mathematics proficiency rate (30.33%) significantly lower. Furthermore, Lake Region High School has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 48.11% to 49.73%, which is higher than the nearby schools and the state average. These factors suggest that the school may face challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students, and the district should consider implementing strategies to address these issues and improve the overall quality of the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The administration almost actively works against students causing them to not graduate. The teacher are immature and if corrected in any way will react as if they are children younger than their students along with some teachers being sexist and cruel to students the guidance counselors will do next to no work to help their students in need, this however is just one of the three guidance counselors but i shall not name any names Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
