Evergreen Elementary School

Summary:

Evergreen Elementary School is a public elementary school located in California, Maryland, serving 736 students in grades K-5. As part of the St. Mary's County Public Schools district, which is ranked 8th out of 25 districts in Maryland, Evergreen Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state averages in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) assessments.

Evergreen Elementary's student population is more diverse compared to many nearby schools, with 61.14% White, 13.72% African American, 11.55% Hispanic, and 5.71% Asian students. Additionally, the school has a lower percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (23.64%) compared to schools like George Washington Carver Elementary (80.89%) and Lexington Park Elementary (82.66%). This diversity may contribute to Evergreen Elementary's strong academic performance, which has consistently ranked the school in the top 25% of Maryland elementary schools.

While Evergreen Elementary's overall performance is impressive, there are some areas where the school could improve, such as the ranking for African American and White student subgroups in Mathematics. However, the school's success in educating its diverse student population, particularly the Hispanic student subgroup, which ranked 2nd out of 347 Maryland elementary schools in ELA proficiency, serves as a model for other schools in the region. Evergreen Elementary's efficient resource allocation, with a lower spending per student compared to some nearby schools, further highlights the school's ability to achieve strong academic results.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I would give a 0 Star if I could. On top of being an unpleasant and snobbish environment for my child, they make false reports to DHS. He's often made complaints about how rude the teachers have been especially when he's needed help with certain subjects. He has told me his teacher has yelled at him out of frustration when he was stuck on a tough subject in class. I have also stayed in contact with them via email during this pandemic, yet they decided to make a false report saying we haven't been doing anything to further his education at all! I am grateful I have the emails as proof. They treat people of color horribly at this school because I haven't heard anything like this from the other parents. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
