William Tyler Page Elementary

Summary:

William Tyler Page Elementary is a public magnet elementary school in Silver Spring, Maryland, serving 611 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools district, which is ranked 7th out of 25 districts in Maryland and has a 4-star rating.

William Tyler Page Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American (40.26%), Hispanic (28.15%), White (16.37%), and Asian (9%) students compared to nearby schools. Academically, the school consistently outperforms state and district averages in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) assessments across all grade levels. Its 3rd-grade proficiency rates in Mathematics (61.3%) and ELA (64.5%) are particularly impressive, surpassing the state and district. The school's performance is exceptional for its African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education student groups, ranking in the top quartile or top 12.5% of Maryland elementary schools for these subgroups.

While William Tyler Page Elementary's overall academic performance is strong, it faces some challenges. Its lower ranking for students from Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) backgrounds suggests a need for targeted interventions and support programs. Additionally, the nearby Westover Elementary outperforms William Tyler Page Elementary in both Mathematics and ELA proficiency across all grade levels, indicating potential best practices that could be worth exploring and replicating. Nevertheless, William Tyler Page Elementary's consistent improvement over the past decade, from the bottom half to the top third of Maryland elementary schools, is a testament to the school's effective teaching practices and the dedication of its staff.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The method teachers of William Tyler Page teach is simply fantastic! They are very patient and have various level of progressive learning for the students. If your child is a fast learner, they put him or her in that track and if your child is a medium or slow learner, they are also put in the same track as their peers. With this, all the students will be able to perform without either being slowed down or not able to follow. The students are very respectful, and well-mannered, for the younger ones, they will do anything to get a blue or green sticker (well behaved). Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
