Summary:

General John Stricker Middle is a public middle school in Baltimore, Maryland, serving 745 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools district, which is ranked 17th out of 25 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While General John Stricker Middle has a higher percentage of White students (52.75%) compared to nearby schools, its academic performance is concerning. The school consistently ranks in the bottom third of Maryland middle schools, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Its proficiency rates in MCAP/English Language Arts and MCAP/Mathematics are significantly lower than the Baltimore County and Maryland state averages. Additionally, over 60% of its students receive free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students. However, the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 12.7 to 14.5 over the past few years.

Compared to surrounding schools like Middle River Middle, Sparrows Point Middle, and Stemmers Run Middle, General John Stricker Middle is underperforming. The declining performance of General John Stricker Middle over the past decade suggests that targeted interventions and support may be necessary to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The office staff is a mess. Messages are never passed on to ether students or teachers. None of the principals will get back to you unless you harass them and the teachers refuse to set up over the phone meetings to discus grades. If you want to speak to someone other than the incompetent secretary be prepared to call multiple times. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
