Sun City Elementary School

Summary:

Sun City Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades K-3 in Bossier City, Louisiana, part of the Bossier Parish school district. With a diverse student population and strong academic performance, Sun City stands out among its peers, though it faces challenges in maintaining its statewide ranking and addressing the increasing percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

Sun City Elementary has a more diverse student body compared to nearby schools, with a racial makeup of 52.2% White, 22.22% African American, 11.82% Hispanic, and 3.53% Asian. Academically, the school outperforms the state average in proficiency rates for LEAP tests in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies across all grades. In 3rd grade, Sun City's proficiency rates are also higher than the Bossier Parish district in these subjects. However, the school's performance for White students and special education students is lower, ranking in the bottom half of the state.

Compared to nearby schools, Central Park Elementary and Waller Elementary have significantly lower academic performance, while Bellaire Elementary, less than a mile away, outperforms Sun City in Mathematics and English Language Arts. Schools in the neighboring Caddo Parish district, such as Shreve Island Elementary and A.C. Steere Elementary, also demonstrate higher academic achievement than Sun City in many areas. Despite maintaining a 4-star rating, Sun City's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, suggesting the need to further investigate the factors contributing to the academic disparities within the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Sun City is a great school. The faculty and staff are always very welcoming when we visit. The teachers provide an excellent education. I would suggest this school to anyone that wants a quality education with a family environment. Close Quote

Open Quote i agree that there is a lot of negativity in general in the way that the children are spoken to at this school. i understand that there needs to be order and discipline, especially when one teacher has 25+ children in her class, but I am not ok with the way that some of the teachers (usually the monitoring teachers, especially at lunch time) speak to the children. My child is in kindergarten and while I am ok with his/her teacher for this year, I worry about sending him/her there for his/her remaining elementary years. we have taught our child at home all that he/she needs to know for this year and i feel that he/she gets ignored because he/she is not "at risk" or a "problem child". i also agree about the office staff; they are not very attentive.
on the other hand they do accomplish the basics and their overall test scores are above average for the state. Close Quote

Open Quote Faculties talked to the pupils with sarcasms.
The reception staffs sees you but you are invinsible. They do not know how to established rapport to their visitors. They think they own the school when you go and talked to them.
School nurse talks with sarcasm, do not check kids medication expiration date especially if they are not use everyday which includes your kids medication that only use during emergency situation.
Staff lacks the capability to find the solutions their seems to be complacency. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
