Carver Elementary School

Summary:

Carver Elementary School is a public elementary school located in DeRidder, Louisiana, serving grades 2-3 with a total enrollment of 348 students. The school is part of the Beauregard Parish school district, which is ranked 40 out of 114 districts in Louisiana and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Carver Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American (19.25%) and Hispanic (7.76%) students compared to the nearby schools, such as South Beauregard Elementary and East Beauregard Elementary, which have a significantly higher percentage of white students (over 90%). Academically, Carver performs better than the Beauregard Parish and Louisiana averages in Mathematics, with 76% of students proficient or better, but lags behind in English Language Arts (51% proficient or better) and Social Studies (31% proficient or better). The school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (70.98%) may be a contributing factor to its relatively lower performance in these subject areas.

While Carver Elementary's diverse student population and strong Mathematics performance are noteworthy, the nearby schools, such as South Beauregard Elementary and East Beauregard Elementary, demonstrate higher overall academic achievement across all subject areas. This suggests that Carver Elementary could benefit from learning from the instructional practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools, while also addressing the specific needs of its diverse student population, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrible school. The teachers and staff expect these kids to be little robots. These poor children come home so discouraged because nothing they do is good enough. Close Quote

Open Quote My nephew attended this school last year and this year. I'm appalled with the neglect that the staff displays. Bullying is ignored, cries for help pushed to the side. Staff makes homophobic comments and participates in gender inequality. Victims are blamed when they come forward and gun threats are dismissed. When confronted, they change their story and attempt to gaslight parents and children, all to try and protect themselves. Children are blamed in order to protect the reputation of teachers and the school. This school is mentally abusive and the school board does nothing. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
