Central Middle School

Summary:

Central Middle School is a public middle school located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,163 students. The school is part of the East Baton Rouge Parish school district, which is ranked 9th out of 122 districts in Louisiana and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Central Middle School consistently ranks among the top middle schools in Louisiana, performing significantly better than the state average on LEAP assessments in both Mathematics and English Language Arts across all grade levels. In 2023-2024, 76% of Central Middle School students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 59% statewide, and 82% were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 69% statewide. This high academic performance is notable, as the school maintains excellence over an extended period, ranking in the top 25% of Louisiana middle schools for the past decade. Additionally, Central Middle School's diverse student population, with 66.04% White, 21.84% African American, and 7.74% Hispanic students, stands out compared to many nearby schools that have much higher concentrations of either African American or White students.

When compared to nearby middle schools, such as Capitol Middle School, Park Forest Middle School, and Baker Middle School, Central Middle School stands out as a high-performing institution, significantly outperforming many of its counterparts on LEAP assessments. This highlights the importance of factors beyond just student demographics, such as school leadership, teacher quality, and instructional practices, in driving student success. As Central Middle School continues to navigate changes in its student demographics, including an increase in the percentage of economically disadvantaged students, it will be important to monitor its ability to maintain its excellence and identify strategies to support all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and with special needs.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote THIS IS THE BEST SCHOOL IN BATON ROUGE!! Teachers are incredibly kind and offering to their students and other staff. The environment is great, using the 1:1 Program for laptop use for the students. Big school and big learning opportunities. They have electives such as, IBCA, Art, Spanish, Band, Crafts/Cooking Class (I forgot the name of it). This is an amazing school and I would definitely enroll your child into this school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
