Helmwood Heights Elementary School

Summary:

Helmwood Heights Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, serving grades 1-5 with a total enrollment of 408 students. The school is part of the Elizabethtown Independent School District, which is ranked 62 out of 159 districts in Kentucky and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Helmwood Heights Elementary School has struggled academically in recent years, ranking between 183 and 521 out of 685-705 Kentucky elementary schools over the past decade, with a 2-3 star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's proficiency rates in mathematics, reading, and other subjects are generally lower than the Elizabethtown Independent district and the state of Kentucky averages. For example, in 3rd grade mathematics, Helmwood Heights had a 37% proficiency rate, compared to 39% for the district and 43% for the state. The school's performance is particularly concerning for 5th-grade mathematics, where only 23% of students were proficient, compared to 31% for the district and 41% for the state.

While the school's overall performance is concerning, the data reveals that certain student subgroups, such as African American and multi-racial students, have performed better than the school's overall ranking in recent years. However, students with disabilities and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds have struggled, with the school's ranking for these subgroups being significantly lower than the overall school ranking. Additionally, the decline in per-student spending at Helmwood Heights, coupled with the school's relatively low student-teacher ratio, suggests that the school may be facing resource challenges that could be impacting its academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

All separate events all different children I have several students attending this school. Also be prepared to have your child trimmed in the restroom as well as refused to use the restroom during class time or they are punished. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
