Prairieland Elementary consistently ranks among the top 20% of Illinois elementary schools, with a statewide ranking between 121 and 419 over the past 10 years. The school's performance on state assessments (IAR and ISA) is significantly higher than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas, with 48.7% of students proficient or better in ELA and 47.4% in Math, compared to 42.2% and 29.3% for the district, and 41.2% and 28.4% for the state. The school consistently ranks in the top 25% of Illinois elementary schools for its performance with special education and disabled student subgroups, though its ranking for low socioeconomic status students has fluctuated.

Compared to nearby schools, Oakdale Elementary and Parkside Elementary, Prairieland outperforms them on most academic measures. However, the high-performing Grove Elementary School surpasses Prairieland in several areas, including ELA and Math proficiency rates. Stevenson Elementary, part of the Bloomington School District 87, lags significantly behind Prairieland and the other nearby schools in academic performance. Prairieland's relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (20.32%) suggests it serves a more affluent student population, which may contribute to its stronger academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have been very happy with this school. We will be going on our 4th year there. Ratios of teacher to students is getting a little high, but many of the schools in the area have the same numbers. I feel my child is challenged, has fun, and is safe at Prairieland. New principal this year and I think she's doing a fine job. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
