Churchville Middle School

Summary:

Churchville Middle School is a public middle school located in Elmhurst, Illinois, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 486 students. The school is part of the Elmhurst School District 205, which is ranked 63 out of 813 school districts in Illinois and is rated 5 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Churchville Middle School's academic performance, while generally lower than the district and state averages, has shown improvement over the years, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA). However, the school still has room for growth, especially in Mathematics and for certain student subgroups. The school's performance for Asian, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students, as well as students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, indicates a need for targeted interventions and support to ensure equitable educational outcomes. Compared to nearby Bryan Middle School and Sandburg Middle School, which are also part of the Elmhurst School District 205, Churchville Middle School's academic performance is generally lower, with these schools consistently ranking in the top 10% and top 5% of Illinois middle schools, respectively, in academic performance.

The school's higher per-student spending and lower student-teacher ratio suggest a focus on resource allocation, but these factors alone do not fully explain the academic performance gaps compared to the top-performing schools in the district. Additionally, the increasing chronic absenteeism rate at Churchville Middle School is a concern and may be a contributing factor to the academic performance challenges. Addressing attendance issues could be a key focus area for the school as it works to improve overall student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have had 4 students successfully graduate from Churchville Middle School, go on to 4 very successful years at York High School, and all 4 will graduate from college within the next 3 years, as 2 already have degrees and great careers, and 2 still in college, one at the University of Tennessee & one at Mizzou! Churchville years can be the most formative time, and this school exceeded our expectations. The life lessons learned while attending Churchville, from the great teachers, different cultures, different languages, and kids of all backgrounds, made our kids more thoughtful and caring people and citizens. I also must add that in most recent years, the PERFECT ACT scores all came from the Churchville pipeline! The staff at York will more than commend those students that come through Churchville, all more than ready to take on ALL of the diversity and challenges that a large High School like York can bring. I wouldn't hesitate for one minute to put my kids through this school again! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
