Open Quote My child attends school here and since the school is mostly majority AA I felt the need to write this to inform other parents since the school has not. On May 18, 2022 my son came home and said that while he was in his 7th grade English class, the students were using a platform for study and the word Ner came up on the screen. Obviously he was saddened and confused and emotional since this is not a term that we use in my household and we never had a discussion about the word and how people use it to be derogatory towards minorities. I was outraged. I was now forced to have a conversation with my son that I wanted to have on my own time. Almost everyday we receive some type of correspondence by email or by phone of things that happen at the school. For some reason, no one from the school notified us of this incident. I reached out to the teacher, vice principal and principal by email to discuss what happened. I then received a phone call from the Vice principal and he stated that they were aware of the situation and would be investigating to see which student was responsible and would be disciplined. The fact that they were trying to keep this quite and not let the parents know of this incident is troubling. Honestly, after having the conversation with the vice principal I almost felt that he went off topic in discussing how everyone uses the word and should not. Which was not what the conversation should have been about. Still to this day, no one has emailed me back about the incident, no emails have gone out to inform the parents. No counseling for my student. Nothing. I really felt that they did not know the impact this word can have on a student and really did not care to address it properly. In light of everything that is going on with mass shootings, this definitely should have been taken more serious. Parents please talk to your kids daily about their day at school. This school obviously picks and chooses what to be upset about. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
