Midland Academy

Summary:

Midland Academy is an elementary school in Midland, Georgia, serving 663 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Muscogee County School District, which is ranked 155 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Midland Academy's test scores on the Milestones Assessment are generally higher than the Muscogee County and Georgia averages, particularly in Mathematics. However, the school lags behind some of the higher-performing nearby schools, such as Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet Academy, Mathews Elementary School, and North Columbus Elementary, which have significantly higher proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.

Midland Academy has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 96.49% to 96.72% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools. This suggests that the school serves a predominantly low-income population, which may contribute to its relatively lower performance compared to some of the higher-performing schools in the area. Additionally, Midland Academy's spending per student is lower than some of the nearby schools, and its student-teacher ratio is relatively high, which could impact the resources and support available to students and teachers.

Open Quote Terrible administration problems. The principal has no idea what’s going on with the kids. Out of control bullying problem. The teachers are great, but it doesn’t matter because your child can’t get an education due to constant class disturbances, bullying, kids cussing out their teachers, and kids getting caught with pot in the bathroom. My child was bullied all year and the upper administration did absolutely nothing about it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
