Eagle Ridge Academy

Summary:

Eagle Ridge Academy is a public elementary school serving 659 students in grades PK-5 in Columbus, Georgia, which is part of the Muscogee County School District. Despite the district's relatively low ranking and rating, Eagle Ridge Academy stands out as a high-performing school, consistently outperforming the district and state averages on standardized tests.

One of the key factors that sets Eagle Ridge Academy apart is its strong academic performance. In the 2023-2024 school year, 53.9% of 5th graders at the school were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to just 37.3% in the Muscogee County district and 48.2% statewide. The school also spends more per student ($9,707 in 2018-2019) and has a lower student-teacher ratio (13.8 in 2022-2023) than the state average, which likely contributes to its success. Additionally, despite having a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 39% to 47% over the past few years, Eagle Ridge Academy is still able to achieve strong academic results, suggesting effective support for its high-need student population.

When compared to nearby schools in the Muscogee County district, Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet Academy, which is ranked 2nd in the state, has significantly higher test scores than Eagle Ridge Academy. However, Eagle Ridge Academy outperforms many of the other nearby schools, such as Reese Road Leadership Academy and Gentian Elementary School. While Eagle Ridge Academy is performing well overall, there may be opportunities to further improve student outcomes, particularly in areas where the school's performance is closer to the district or state averages, such as 4th grade mathematics and 5th grade science.

Open Quote This school is exceptional! I love the level of engagement that Mrs. Moye provides to my Son (in Kindergarten). They work so hard to morph the behavioral traits and keep parents posted and engaged. They encourage reading. The way they teach numbers to these kindergartners, is also worth appreciating! They use Bloomz app that makes it all the way easy to communicate with teachers and the Teachers are prompt on responses! I have got response to my message late at 9 pm and even at 6 am in the mornings. Thanks Eagle Ridge! Close Quote

Open Quote Both my children attended 2nd through 5th. Had a personal issue with my childs second grade teacher, but the education is good. I feel they got a quality education and were challenged. If you have a child with Aspergers, it is hit and miss with having a understanding teachers. Children attend 4 different teachers starting in 4th grade for each subject. The drop off of mornings was rough with hgih school sharing lot, but it is smooth running (if you drop at door), if you choose to park and walk your child in, parking is tight. Absoluety can not say enough about Miss Salgado (3rd grade) and Mrs. Wilson (4th grade) and Mr. Marshal (4th grade) AMAZING teachers!!!! Close Quote

Open Quote It is hard to believe that a school given its location and ratings is in fact a horrible choice. This is the typical "good on paper" scenario. We only attended for a very short time before I pulled my child out of there. I witnessed pre-k children FIST fighting in the lunch room (their teacher commented on the issues that those two don't like each other???), the teachers that are outside on playground duty are more concerned about their "social hour" with each other than watching what the kids are doing, students are full on spitting on other students, kids getting hit in the face by other Kindergarten kids...just a total disaster. Even after having made the principal aware of the issues nothing was done. Do not let the "good on paper" appearance fool you! Their pick up policy is also a joke - every parent has an assigned number they need to show to pick up their child - my child is NOT a number! Given that this was put in place by said principle ... I am not surprised. If you think a bout moving in the school district to have your child attend this school - don't! Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter is entering 2nd grade this year which will be her 3rd year at this school. She absolutely loves it. The teachers are very hands on and keep communication with parents open. The principal is the same. The children as well as the staff have a very high sense of pride when it comes to Eagle Ridge and it shows. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
