Dutchtown Elementary School

Summary:

Dutchtown Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Hampton, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 932 students. The school is part of the Henry County School District, which is ranked 152 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Dutchtown Elementary School consistently outperforms the Henry County and Georgia state averages in the Milestones Assessment for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Dutchtown's 5th-grade students scored 42.9% proficient or better in ELA, compared to 37.4% for Henry County and 48.2% for the state. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.8 to 17.5 over the past three school years, and a higher per-student spending compared to the state average, with spending ranging from $8,495 to $8,644 per student over the past three years. Additionally, Dutchtown Elementary has a lower percentage of free and reduced lunch recipients (46.57% in 2022-2023) compared to some of the nearby schools, which can be an indicator of the socioeconomic status of the student population.

When compared to the nearby schools, such as Hampton Elementary School, Hickory Flat Elementary School, and Smith-Barnes Elementary School, Dutchtown Elementary stands out as a relatively higher-performing school, with better test scores and a lower percentage of free and reduced lunch recipients. This suggests the school may be serving a more advantaged student population or is more effective in its instructional practices. However, the school still has room for improvement in certain subject areas, such as 5th-grade Mathematics, where only 27% of students were proficient or better in the 2023-2024 school year.

Open Quote Curriculum related, great school, our child has done well so far.

As for the administration, I can't say anything but horrible. They could seriously care less about anything important. We had major trouble with bullying last year, and nothing was ever done. I pull up at the school one day, to hear rap music blaring outside of the gym, with cuss words and off color statements being made relating to female anatomy, and was left standing waiting to be acknowledged by the principal for 10 minutes. When she finally came to address it, the response she gave me was pretty much like she was just patting my head and brushing me off. A child brought a weapon on a bus, a child that had been complained about numerous times by numerous parents of children on the bus and they had done nothing, and we were kept completely out of the loop of what the situation was. We will be transferring out of this district as soon as we can. We would have gone earlier, but the school lied to us about the dates the school board set for choice of schools. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
