Cedar Hill Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 900 students. The school is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which is ranked 65th out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Cedar Hill Elementary School has a relatively high per-student spending, ranging from $8,742 to $9,973 over the past few years, the school has consistently underperformed compared to the Gwinnett County and Georgia state averages in the Milestones Assessment for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in 5th grade English Language Arts was 25%, compared to 53.4% for Gwinnett County and 48.2% for the state. Additionally, Cedar Hill Elementary School has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 70.92% to 78.22% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the nearby Pharr Elementary (52.28%) and Brookwood Elementary (36.55%).

When comparing Cedar Hill Elementary School to the nearby schools in the same district, it becomes evident that the school is underperforming academically. For example, Pharr Elementary and Brookwood Elementary consistently outperform Cedar Hill Elementary in the Milestones Assessments, with significantly higher percentages of students proficient or better in all subject areas. The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Cedar Hill Elementary School suggests that the school serves a lower-income population compared to the nearby schools, which may be a contributing factor to the school's lower academic performance.

Open Quote Hateful spiteful School the staff absolutely cares more about themselves than their your students on any day! They do not do a good job teaching they do not ensure that every child is learning with their supposed to be learning and with all the standardized testing there is no retention of information there's just pushing them through the system and I am terribly worried about the education that my children are getting. The students are basically condoned to bully one another to speak nasty sexual things to get into fights the bus drivers most of them look like meth heads or jerks or ex-cons another one that picked my son up almost hit my car speeding around the corner one afternoon I do not trust her with my child I hate this school I hate having to send my child to this school all the teachers are nasty and should not be in this position none of them not one. Open Quote Cedar Hill an excellent school. I think there has been a lot of bad hype, but I encourage parents to try Cedar Hill for themselves, and form your own opinions. One parent's/child's bad experience may not always be the school's fault, no matter what that parent may lead you to believe. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
