Open Quote I can't even say that this school is average. It's way below average and it's heading more in the wrong direction. I don't now where all of the kids come from but there are so many kids at this school who don't live anywhere even close to the school's attendence boundaries. Not a lot of high expectations here with kids walking around in sagging pants and pretty bad behavior. You won't get much communication from the school and thats just how it is all year long. There are some good teachers, but each year more of them ask for transfers. The good families are pulling their kids too and it won't be long before the school is just another DeKalb county warehouse. So sad because Tucker and Smoke Rise are really nice places to live. I don't know why this school has to be so bad when it comes to test scores and the way the kids act. Close Quote

Open Quote My child was enrolled at Tucker Middle. It was the worst experience that I had. Teachers were disrespectful, and virtually non-communicative. The administrators did nothing to improve communication and often refused to respond to inquiries. Many students are not even zoned for the school, and in some cases, bring the school down. In all, the school fails because of its ineffective principal, and poor administrators. The few good administrators leave the school, and the school seems to recycle administrators from other poorly performing schools. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
