Villa Rica Elementary School

Summary:

Villa Rica Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 432 students in grades PK-5 in Villa Rica, Georgia, which is part of the Carroll County School District. While the district is ranked 60th out of 203 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating, Villa Rica Elementary School faces some academic challenges compared to nearby schools.

The school's test scores are generally lower than the Carroll County and Georgia state averages across most grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 3rd grade English Language Arts proficiency rate was 41.3% compared to the county's 44.3% and the state's 38.4%. Additionally, the school has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 64.34% to 69.44% over the past few years, which is higher than nearby schools in the same district. However, Villa Rica Elementary School has a lower student-teacher ratio of 14.5 and higher spending per student of $9,892 in 2018-2019 compared to other schools in the district.

Despite these challenges, Villa Rica Elementary School has seen some positive trends, such as its 5th grade Science proficiency rates outperforming the nearby schools in the district. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined from 247th out of 1,209 Georgia elementary schools in 2017-2018 to 421st out of 1,248 in 2023-2024, even though it maintains a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's inconsistent test score performance and potential socioeconomic factors may be contributing to these challenges, but the higher spending per student and lower student-teacher ratio suggest a focus on providing additional resources and support to its students.

Open Quote I truly would think twice before sending a child to this school. These ratings are inaccurate and I would check another web site before enrolling my child.
There is also some great information on Yahoo news that may interest all of you. Not to say that all the people there are faulted. I wish they could be part of a better environment. However, everyone grown knows right from wrong. I do believe that if you choose to teach it should be because you love children and enjoy the job. Not just about a paycheck. If it is not something you can handle and children annoy you then you are in the wrong line of work. That being said. I do have to sing the praise of a couple of teachers at the school who really do CARE. If you send your children I pray they get the precious few that are there. Close Quote

Open Quote Villa Rica Elementary School is a great place for children. The focus of the school is putting kids first! My children went to VRE and they had a great experience. The building is older but the teachers and principals are wonderful. The atmosphere of the school is exciting and really encourages students to learn. Keeping children motivated is difficult today. At VRE that is a primary focus and it really shows with the children's' enthusiasm. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
