The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 44.06% in 2020-2021 to 63.58% in the current 2022-2023 school year, which is higher than the state average and indicates a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

However, these investments have not yet translated into improved academic outcomes for the students.

Open Quote This school is utterly ridiculous. I have never heard of an elementary school that punishes children for talking at lunch, let white children bully black children and refuse to put it on record after several different incidents and me going to the principal to have meetings at the school, they punish all kids in the class if 1 child is misbehaving and take away recess, they have racist teachers that allow certain privileges for "certain" students.... and the principal let's her front office staff disrespect parents and threaten to send kids home on the bus when they are aware that your child needs to be ASP, knowing that their ASP payment system having issues. VERY DISSATISFIED. If you are of a certain color, I suggest you really do your research before you enroll your child in this school. Definitely don't judge a book by its cover. I waited a few months to do this review so that I could give them an opportunity to treat my family like tax paying citizens..... However, nothing has changed. Hopefully I can give a better review as the year progresses. But over the past few months....this entire experience with MASON CREEK elementary has been a total nightmare. I have never experienced this at a Cobb County School. I will be returning to Cobb County once this year is over. I do not want to risk my 4 year old experiencing what my 10 year old has to endure. Open Quote The principal, Mrs. French is an extremely strong, motivated & hard working principal, who REALLY LOVES ALL HER STUDENTS AND LOVES GREAT PARENTS! She has won a number of Google grants and other resources to help provide needed technology and other programs to Mason Creek Elementary to make the school well rounded and on pace for what our children will need in the future(and now😃). I even felt love for students from media center, cafeterua staff & custodians!
My son had terrific teachers during his 3rd through 5th grade years and they all made it easy to communicate with them. I sent my highly, gifted child there because they were the 1st elementary school in Douglas County, Ga to have a Robotics club and competitive team for 4th & 5th graders. A team that in it's 2nd year my son would be one of the 2 students, specifically, whom programmed the EV3 robot the team used to win 3 trophies over 15-30 of the states' middle school, aged teams!!! Though, outside of academics the spirits of FUN, INCLUSIVENESS, SAFETY, DIVERSITY & SHARING & LOVE FOR CHILDREN ARE FELT throughout the school😁! There are events and activities to develop character & cross-cultural education/enrichment, along with sensitvity(i.e. having pep rally for special-needs or challenged students participating in Special Olympics😀). This year one of those grants I mentioned, allowed all students (k-5, I believe?) have STEM as a regular, weekly class! This school deserves even higher ranking😁! Close Quote

Open Quote Mason Creek Elementary is a very nurturing school, from the time you walk in the door you are greeted and shown where and what to do, how you can help by mentoring and its a all around educational oriented place where your children feel safe. They have a great core based curriculum, and they start at such an early age that they can only succeed, succeed, succeed! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
