Jackson High School

Summary:

Jackson High School is a public high school located in Jackson, Georgia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,070 students. The school is part of the Butts County School District, which is ranked 126 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

One of the notable strengths of Jackson High School is its steady improvement in four-year graduation rates, increasing from 80.8% in 2017-2018 to 93.1% in 2021-2022, which exceeds the state average. However, the school's performance on the Milestones Assessments is mixed, with better results in Biology but lagging behind in subjects like American Literature and Composition, Algebra I, and United States History. Additionally, Jackson High School has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 83.18% to 88.52% over the past few years, indicating a relatively high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When compared to nearby schools, Jackson High School generally performs better than the lower-ranked schools in the Henry County and Griffin-Spalding County districts, such as Hampton High School, McDonough High School, and Spalding High School. However, it lags behind the higher-performing Ola High School and Locust Grove High in the Henry County district. With targeted interventions, resource allocation, and collaboration with successful neighboring schools, Jackson High School has the potential to enhance its overall educational outcomes and provide a more equitable learning environment for its students.

Open Quote This school is still adjusting to a new principal, and I think over the next few years it will improve. As of now, I would not recommend this school. Drugs, violence, academically poor, few teachers or administrators that care about the students. Maybe one day, but not today. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
