Fruitville Elementary School

Summary:

Fruitville Elementary School is a public elementary school in Sarasota, Florida, serving 775 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Sarasota School District, which is ranked 8th out of 68 districts in the state.

Fruitville Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools like Ashton Elementary and Tatum Ridge Elementary, with 56.52% White, 7.35% African American, 28.77% Hispanic, and 6.19% two or more races. While the school generally performs better than the state average on standardized tests, it lags behind the Sarasota district average in many areas, such as 3rd-grade ELA proficiency. Fruitville has also seen fluctuations in its chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 5.5% to 24.3%, higher than top-performing schools but lower than some high-poverty schools in the area.

With 57.16% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, Fruitville Elementary has a relatively high percentage of economically disadvantaged students compared to nearby schools. This, coupled with its mixed academic performance, may indicate potential equity concerns that the school and district need to address through targeted interventions and support. Overall, Fruitville Elementary is a moderately performing school within the Sarasota district, with both strengths and areas for improvement as it continues to serve its diverse community.

Open Quote We have two boys attending Fruitville for the past three years, and we LOVE IT!!
The Teachers, the staff, and student body. The PTO is amazing, and gives the students many opportunities to excel themselves. Book drives, career days, fund raisers are all fun and do a great deal for the students. The teachers go out of their way to support each student they have in their classrooms. Class sizes are small compared to the national averages, and parents are always welcome to join in the classroom to observe or lend a hand with activities. I would not move my gifted child to Pine View. He doesn't need 2 hours of homework everynight because the teacher doesn't value the parents time well.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
