Olympia High

Summary:

Olympia High is a public high school in Orlando, Florida, serving 2,969 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Orange County School District, which is ranked 31 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Olympia High stands out for its relatively diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 26.34% White, 26.78% African American, 35.97% Hispanic, and 7.54% Asian. This diversity is higher compared to nearby schools like Windermere High and West Orange High, which have higher percentages of White and Hispanic students. Olympia High also maintains a strong four-year graduation rate, ranging from 91.0% to 98.4% over the past few years, outperforming the state and district averages. However, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 13.5% in 2018-2019 to 48.0% in 2022-2023, a concerning trend that is higher than the state and district averages.

Academically, Olympia High's test scores, as measured by proficiency rates in various End-of-Course (EOC) and FAST assessments, are generally lower than the state and district averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Olympia High's proficiency rates in Algebra 1 (35%), Geometry (57%), and 10th grade English Language Arts (54%) were below the state and district averages. When compared to nearby schools, Windermere High and West Orange High consistently outperform Olympia High in terms of state-wide school rankings, graduation rates, and test scores, despite being in the same school district. The school's racial diversity and lower performance metrics suggest that there may be equity-related challenges that the school and district need to address.

Open Quote I have to laugh at the other poster for thinking they received unjustified punishment. They probably wore a skirt that didn't cover their ... and got dress code. Olympia is a great school with good upper level teachers. We had over 30 students go to UF, including myself, this last year, 2011. Our salutatorian went to Cornell. There is an abundance of idiots, but they are pretty well contained in the "stupid hallways". One last thing, if your child is intelligent don't feel they need to go into APEX, it has absolutely no benefits. I loved Olympia and i challenge anyone who didn't to come up with a specific reason. Open Quote Very bad school.

Bad regulations for behavior, which leads to unjustified consequences for minor and personal behavior unrelated to the school or county.

Do not send your child to Olympia, and if possible; not even an orange county school should be considered for your child. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
