Windy Ridge K-8 consistently ranks in the top 25% of Thornebrooke Elementary and Windermere Elementary, which outperform Windy Ridge K-8 in academic proficiency. The school's diverse racial makeup, with 27.28% White, 11.25% African American, 48.08% Hispanic, and 10.06% Asian students, is a strength, providing students with the opportunity to learn and interact with peers from different backgrounds. However, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 8.6% in 2018-2019 to 23.1% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the nearby schools.

Windy Ridge K-8 performs well academically, with proficiency rates in Algebra 1, Geometry, Civics, and Science that are significantly higher than the district and state averages. In English Language Arts and Math, the school outperforms the district and state in most grade levels, with proficiency rates ranging from 54% to 87%. The school's free and reduced lunch rates, which have fluctuated between 29.55% and 47.61%, indicate a mix of socioeconomic backgrounds among the student population. While Windy Ridge K-8 is a strong-performing school, the increasing chronic absenteeism and performance gaps compared to some nearby schools suggest areas for potential improvement and further investigation.

Open Quote This school.claims to be the best for special needs students but unfortunately it is not. Every year they get worse and my child was abused here. Admin did not care and would go out of their way to ignore me after the berified report of abuse. The ese kiddos are not treated as equals to the other gen Ed population, it is heartbreaking. The school has willfully gone against IEPs making them feel above everyone else. If your child is recommended to go here push against it. Close Quote

Open Quote I attended here many many years ago, I would never recommend sending your child here. When I attended here, a part of your grades are based on how much your child is a teacher's pet and how much presents you give them on their birthday. At Windy Ridge, you don't work hard for your grades, you buy it. As a child these teachers would bully the snap out of me for ratting them out for doing something illegal, they would avoid helping me with my homework, make fun of how I look. told me I would never amount to anything and said if I told anyone they said these things, I was weak. I would bawl my eyes out. They would do this in front of the entire class to humiliate me. I was very unmotivated to work and saw no point in doing my best anymore if I was just going to be berated by these miserable malevolent hippo women. Close Quote

Open Quote My child attends Windy Ridge and I am so happy it will be their last year there. The office staff is pleasant, but only with their own. They are not kind or very helpful to parents, they are basically, downright rude. The PTA runs that school. They decide what gets done and how it's done and they're all a very snooty group of women. There are many problems with bullying in that school and the faculty and staff have ignored it all. They allow their teachers to yell and bully students themselves. They have very little concern for student backgrounds and are constantly doing a Donuts for Dads (they've held about 5 this year alone), nothing from moms, even though it has been suggested. They don't care that there are many students who have lost their dads one way or another. They just keep pushing this same activity over and over. The school is well over-rated. Their teachers are not that good and fall behind on lessons and then push the students to make-up the work, therefore, stressing them out. Overall, the school is a 1 on my rating scale. I don't recommend it to anyone. Millenia Elementary on Vineland Road is a much better school. They really care about the school from the office staff to the teachers to the Principal. Windy Ridge only cares about money and caters to the ones who give it the most. The office staff should all be changed, because besides being nasty, they are all in la la land. You ask them a question, and they never know the answer to simple questions. They always have to look it up. My child has always been an honor roll student, and I have to constantly tell them to ignore their surroundings and focus on their work, because so much negative goes on in that school, that concentration is very difficult. Two thumbs down Windy Ridge. Close Quote

Open Quote We were very excited to enroll our daughter at Windy Ridge after reading the rave reviews online...we were sorely mistaken. We came in during the middle of the year-our daughter came to this school with straight A's. Within 2 months of attending, her grade point average went down to a C. She has never had any problems at school and has always been able to make friends. As explained to us on several occasions by the school administration as well as the teachers, this school is a K-8 school and many of these children have grown up together since kindergarten. Meaning, there were several clicks and if you weren't part of it from the beginning, you never will be. My daughter has been bullied by more than one child, we have addressed this on more than one occasion. They moved her classes around but that is it. We are very upset and regret enrolling her in this school. She will not be attending this school next year. My advice to parents thinking about enrolling your student at Windy Ridge is to take this review seriously and think twice about it. Close Quote

Open Quote We just finished our first involvement with Windy Ridge. Having come in only half way through the year, we heard great things about the school. Our initial interaction was with the Registrar, which left of a little concerned. She was slow to respond and impersonal. Once past the registration period, we were happy.
The curriculum has been solid, with a surprising amount of homework for early elementary school. There were many built-in ways in which learning was reinforced. Several projects were assigned that continued to build confidence and reinforce what was learned in class.
The teacher we had was a very good instructor, but made many mistakes indicating that she is still maturing as a professional. Specifically, she failed to communicate key events, and struggled to follow up on requests.
We were also surprised to see that the school administration didn't seem to "welcome" parental volunteers. Sure, we got involved as events happened, but the day to day in-classroom helped was seemingly discouraged. Perhaps this is to minimize distractions to teaching to the curriculum? Perhaps follow through and communication from the teachers could be improved by encouraging parental involvement.
So far so good, Windy Ridge... while there's room for improvement, we're glad to be a part of the WR Family. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
