Westridge Middle

Summary:

Westridge Middle is a public middle school in Orlando, Florida, serving 1,207 students in grades 6-8. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority of African American and Hispanic students. However, Westridge Middle consistently underperforms compared to the Orange County and Florida state averages on standardized tests, with only 28% of students proficient or better in 6th and 7th grade FAST ELA, and 52% proficient in 8th grade FAST Math, compared to the county and state averages.

Westridge Middle also faces significant challenges with chronic absenteeism, with a rate of 41.9% in the 2022-2023 school year, much higher than the nearby Hamlin Middle (22.7%), Conway Middle (39.4%), and Southwest Middle (40.6%). Additionally, Westridge Middle has a high percentage of students (68.43%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, significantly higher than the surrounding schools.

Despite these challenges, Westridge Middle's nearby counterparts, such as Hamlin Middle, which ranked 189 out of 1,196 Florida middle schools in 2023-2024, perform significantly better on academic metrics. Addressing the issues of chronic absenteeism, access to resources, and targeted interventions could be crucial in improving Westridge Middle's overall performance and providing a better educational experience for its students.

Open Quote physical fights (never go two weeks without one)
People in higher grades treat you like trash
bathrooms are gross
food is often bad
teachers tend to only care about pay checks
children are really immature for their age
Kids in general are rude (some aren't bad about 20)
If kids don't think your cool they talk about you (mostly in your face)
we have assigned seats in lunch

Good parts:

music programs are mostly good but kids don't take care of instruments
Mr. Morgan is a cool dean he shaved his head to make the number 7 when the 7th grades were testing (lol)
Teacher do care about students and are really easy to talk
education is good

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
