Gaither High School has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students (48.61%) and a lower percentage of White students (35.89%). The school has maintained a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 92.2% to 96.2% over the past few years, which is higher than the state and district averages. However, Gaither High School has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 17.7% in 2019-2020 to 40.5% in 2021-2022, which is higher than the state and district averages. The school's test scores, particularly in Algebra 1 and Geometry, are lower than the state and district averages, with proficiency rates ranging from 26% to 54% in various subjects and grade levels.

Gaither High School's performance is generally lower than the nearby high-performing schools, such as Steinbrenner High School and Brooks Debartolo Collegiate High School, in terms of test scores, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism. The school's higher spending per student and student-teacher ratio compared to the state and district averages may indicate a need to evaluate the effectiveness of resource allocation and identify areas for improvement. By addressing the identified challenges and collaborating with higher-performing nearby schools, Gaither High School can work towards enhancing its academic performance and providing a more equitable and supportive learning environment for its students.

Open Quote Does not support the student. I've had all of my kids go through Gaither high and the last two school years have been the worst I have ever seen. Something has changed in the higher ups...Principal and assistant principal and it has all been down hill from there. Would not recommend this school at all Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
