Greenland Pines Elementary School is a public elementary school in Jacksonville, Florida, serving 662 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Duval School District, which is ranked 54 out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Greenland Pines Elementary consistently outperforms the Duval District and the state of Florida in academic assessments across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 69% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 49% in the Duval District and 55% statewide. In math, 75% of 4th graders were proficient or better, compared to 53% in the district and 58% statewide. The school also has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White (58.46%) and Asian (8.01%) students, and a lower percentage of African American (12.69%) and Hispanic (12.24%) students compared to nearby schools. However, Greenland Pines Elementary has a higher chronic absenteeism rate (29.7% in 2022-2023) compared to the state average, but lower than some nearby charter schools like San Jose Primary (57.5%) and Duval Charter School at Flagler Center (14.9%).

Greenland Pines Elementary's strong academic performance, with the school consistently ranking in the top 25% of Florida elementary schools and earning a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, suggests the school is effectively supporting student learning and achievement. However, some nearby charter schools, such as River City Science Academy at Mandarin, also demonstrate exceptional academic results, with higher proficiency rates in many subjects. This highlights the importance of school choice and the potential for charter schools to drive academic excellence. The school should continue to address challenges such as chronic absenteeism and ensure equitable access to educational resources for all students, regardless of their racial or ethnic background.

Open Quote I can only speak for first grade, but the bullying problem needs to be addressed! Parents of bullies aren't contacted and teachers need to educate kids to be more tolerant and kinder to others. Little hooligans pick on the quieter, sweeter kids, especially those with special needs. Goodness knows what burden to society the bullies will grow up to be. Very disappointed in teachers and administration for not protecting our kids. Close Quote

Open Quote As a grandparent, I have had the opportunity to observe this school for about 8-9 years - with one grandson now 18 and the other currently a student there. The teachers are extremely dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring. The support staff is probably one of the best I've ever observed. (I'm also a former teacher.) The school has unfailingly provided excellent education at the elementary level. The Mandarin area of Jacksonville is fortunate to have such an excellent academic institution within our district. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
