Crown Point Elementary School

Summary:

Crown Point Elementary School is a public elementary school in Jacksonville, Florida, serving 767 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Duval District, which is ranked 54 out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Crown Point Elementary faces several challenges, including a high chronic absenteeism rate that has risen from 19.5% in 2019-2020 to 44.1% in 2022-2023, significantly higher than the district and state averages. The school's test scores are also generally below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subjects, with only 47% of 3rd graders proficient in ELA, compared to 49% in the district and 55% statewide. Additionally, Crown Point Elementary has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 49.67% to 56.31% over the past three years, which is significantly higher than nearby schools.

When comparing Crown Point Elementary to nearby schools, it becomes evident that the school is underperforming academically. For instance, River City Science Academy Innovation School, which is only 2.79 miles away, consistently outperforms Crown Point Elementary in test scores and has a higher statewide ranking. Despite the higher spending per student at Crown Point Elementary, the school's academic performance remains below the district and state averages, suggesting that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution, and a more comprehensive approach to improving educational outcomes may be necessary.

Open Quote Poor Teacher organization, they lost my child for pick up once and no one seemed to care, after we confronted the teacher and principle my child began to get poor marks from her teacher when prior to she was recieving high marks. We moved out of this elementary school district because of two years of lackluster teacher performance and after the incident cited earlier.

Go elsewhere if you have an option, otherwise be prepared to work with your child at home significantly more than usual. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
