Academir Charter School Middle

Summary:

Academir Charter School Middle is a public charter middle school in Miami, Florida, serving 297 students in grades 6-8. The school has a predominantly Hispanic student population, with over 98% of students identifying as Hispanic.

Academir Charter School Middle consistently outperforms the Miami-Dade and Florida state averages on standardized tests, with significantly higher proficiency rates in End-of-Course (EOC) exams for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology 1, as well as higher proficiency in FAST English Language Arts and Math assessments across all grade levels. However, the school has a higher chronic absenteeism rate of 23.3% compared to the district and state averages. Additionally, 62.63% of Academir's students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

When compared to nearby public schools, such as Somerset Academy Bay Middle School and Archimedean Middle Conservatory, Academir Charter School Middle stands out for its academic performance, particularly in EOC exams and FAST assessments. However, the school's lower per-student spending of $8,561 compared to some nearby public schools is an area to consider.

Open Quote Teachers “forget” to put in your grades, leaving you a bad grade until they find the work you turned in. There was a fire going on at the school and they tried to convince everyone that there was nothing happening, despite the smoke leaking out of the cafeteria. Oh, not to mention they DIDN’T HELP THE STUDENTS LEAVE! THE STUDENTS WALKED TO THE 7/11 BY THEMSELVES BECAUSE THE TEACHERS DIDN’T BOTHER TO HELP THEM LEAVE. THEY DIDN’T SHOW UP UNTIL 10-25 MINUTES AFTER THE FIRE BROKE OUT. I know all this because I was a student this year and will now be transferring. Never again will I attend. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
