Miami Children's Museum Charter School

Summary:

Miami Children's Museum Charter School is an elementary school serving 309 students in grades K-5, located in Miami, Florida and part of the Miami-Dade school district. The school has consistently received a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, ranking in the top 20% of Florida elementary schools.

Miami Children's Museum Charter School significantly outperforms the Miami-Dade district and the state of Florida in academic proficiency, with 75-90% of students proficient in ELA and Math compared to 55-65% for Miami-Dade and 53-60% for Florida. The school also has a more racially diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White (20%) and Asian (1.6%) students compared to nearby schools. However, the school has experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates in recent years, ranging from 13-23%, which is an area of concern. Despite this, the school spends around $9,500 per student, which is lower than the spending at some nearby schools, suggesting it is able to achieve strong academic results while operating efficiently.

When compared to the nearby charter and traditional public schools, such as Downtown Miami Charter School, Theodore R. And Thelma A. Gibson Charter School, and Paul Laurence Dunbar K-8 Center, Miami Children's Museum Charter School stands out as a high-performing institution, with significantly better academic outcomes across multiple grade levels and subjects.

Open Quote We didn't fit in with the school culture. It could have been COVID.
We expected the Museum would be integrated into all areas of instruction. Not do much. Science was the only area that hit the mark,
Overall, it felt a bit superficial, cliquish without as much academic drive as its potential.
Didn’t really foster community with all students. PTA - Non existent except for the membership dues. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
