Collegiate Academy of Colorado

Summary:

Collegiate Academy of Colorado is a public charter school in Littleton, Colorado that serves 304 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The school is part of the Jefferson County School District, which is ranked 35th out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 4-star rating.

Collegiate Academy of Colorado has a higher percentage of Hispanic students (18.09%) compared to the district (14.89%) and state (16.17%) averages, but a lower percentage of white students (67.11%) compared to the district (72.34%) and state (72.98%). The school's performance on standardized tests, including CMAS, SAT, and PSAT, is generally below the district and state averages. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates were 40.4% in English Language Arts, 22.1% in Math, and 37.5% in 11th grade Science, compared to the district's 51.8%, 40.7%, and 34.1% respectively. Additionally, Collegiate Academy of Colorado has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (31.58%) compared to the district average (27.36%), but a lower student-teacher ratio (9.2) compared to the district average (9.6).

When compared to other nearby schools in the same district, such as Sobesky Academy, which has a much higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (82.73%) and a lower student-teacher ratio (6.5), Collegiate Academy of Colorado generally performs below the averages. The school's lower test scores, particularly in Math and Science, suggest that there may be opportunities to strengthen the curriculum and instructional practices in these subject areas. Additionally, the higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch may indicate a need for additional support and resources for these students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The principal & vice principal take full responsibility of the students safety by navigating them through the drop off/pick up line. The front desk lady is always nice & always knows what's going on around the school. There is always someone there to help you with any questions or concerns. The teachers are very nice & professional & they always notify you of your child's progress or weaknesses. Close Quote

Open Quote When we moved here 2 years ago from AZ, I wanted to find a charter school that had a little more freedom in curriculum. When I discovered Collegiate, just a mile away from my home, I was pleased with the distance and small size of classrooms, and I was pleasantly surprised with my son's first grade teacher recognizing a learning issue early on in the semester. She contacted me about getting him screened for extra help in the special ed program, and it turns out he has greatly benefited from the program. I feel that the teachers and school as a whole is much better than other schools about communicating with parents about their child's learning progress. So far, I have had nothing but good to say about all my childrens' teachers and I hope I can continue to say that all the way through the grades. Close Quote

Open Quote We are very grateful to have discovered Collegiate Academy of Colorado. Go Wolves! We initially transferred our children there due to the free full day kindergarten and that it was K-12. Only one stop for dropping off/picking up kids! The small class sizes have been wonderful for our children's education and the teachers are a truly great team. The leadership is strong and we love the "no-nonsense" attitude from the principal and vice principals. We plan on keeping our children enrolled through graduation! Close Quote

Open Quote This school is amazing! Our son has been attending since Kindergarten and is currently in second grade. I love the parental involvement in the school in day-to-day activities, it really feels like a big family! My son loves going to school everyday and it seems as though the children are learning things ahead of when the local public schools are learning them. The class sizes are small so there is so much more one-on-one time for the teacher and students! Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers make this school the amazing place to learn that it is. Actually, they make Collegiate the inseparable part of our lives that it is. My kids' teachers are like members of our family- they aren't just looking out for the academics and learning but also for the social and emotional health and growth of these students. The hours that my children spend at Collegiate - voluntarily - after the school day is over, or before it begins, speak volumes about the quality and integrity of the staff that works here. Open Quote CAC has only been our home for a little over a year, but has changed our daughter's life. She doesn't learn like most other students, and hated going to school before we came here. As a parent who values education, her struggle at school and the attitude she had about learning was heartbreaking. The teachers at our old school were nice, but seemed to have decided she was a kid who would never do well in school and just gave her busy work. I recognize that my daughter will always have challenges in learning, but I also know she can learn with the right help. The teachers and special education specialist at Collegiate have gone above and beyond to work with her personally to make her feel successful. She doesn't want to come home at the end of the day now, which is more than I could ever have imagined at the beginning of last year. We had no idea this school existed until we heard about CAC from my husband's coworker, and we feel so blessed to have found this school and hope others in our situation will find it also. Open Quote My kids are proud to go to Collegiate Academy and I couldn't be happier with the education they are getting from the great teachers at this school. We came to Collegiate when my oldest was in 8th grade, and she is now a junior, so we have been with the school through bad times and good. The school went through a rough transition when the principal who founded the school left a couple of years ago. I think the new principals have been in place for about two years now and positive things are happening. State test results just came out and even though the school doesn't make a big deal about test scores, I was impressed with the high scores for my daughter's class. Highly recommend CAC! Open Quote This school is amazing in every aspect - its nearly ineffable. I've gone here since 5th grade and am now a sophomore, and attending CAC is one of the best decisions I've ever made. From elementary to middle to high school, my experience has only gotten better and better. I urge any student and or parent who reads this to seriously consider going to school here, I am convinced that there is no better place. And to address the prior comment of having an insufficent high school, I have improved so much from 8th grade going into freshman year, its awesome. I came in being partially proficent in math, English, and science and now I am in an 11 grade AP English course, a great Chemistry class, and in Pre-Calculus. This is proggress, this is something that will help me for the rest of my life, thanks CAC Close Quote

Open Quote I am a sophmore at Collegiate Academy and it has been my home for five years, running on six. You could not ask for a better learning environment, staff, peers, or teachers. Some people might believe that our small size is a negative factor, but it is because of our size that the school is a family, and though it may sound cliche, it it very true. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
