Antelope Ridge Elementary School

Summary:

Antelope Ridge Elementary School is a public elementary school in Aurora, Colorado, serving 566 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Cherry Creek School District No. 5. The school has a relatively diverse student population and generally performs on par with or slightly above district and state averages in academic assessments, though with some areas for improvement.

Antelope Ridge's student body is 55.3% White, 22.61% Hispanic, 7.6% African American, and 7.24% Asian, making it more diverse than some nearby schools like Heritage Heights Academy, Aspen Crossing Elementary, and Peakview Elementary. The school's academic performance on CMAS tests is generally on par with or slightly above district and state averages in English Language Arts and Math, but slightly below in Science. Notably, Antelope Ridge's Hispanic students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds perform relatively well compared to their peers statewide, ranking in the top 30-40% of Colorado elementary schools in these subgroups.

However, Antelope Ridge's overall statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 116th out of 914 Colorado elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 387th out of 943 in 2023-2024. This suggests the school may be struggling to keep pace with other high-performing schools in the state, such as Rolling Hills Elementary and Pine Ridge Elementary, which outperform Antelope Ridge in both academic achievement and statewide rankings. The school's relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, around 25-29%, also indicates it serves a population with greater economic challenges compared to some nearby schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Mr. Powell is an excellent principal, advocating kids, teachers and the school itself. Specials/Electives teachers are treated as respectfully as classroom teachers. I subbed at Antelope Ridge for 6 weeks in 2014 and it was the best placement experience I've ever had. The teachers are caring and professional, setting high standards for themselves and their students. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and the Specials team was excellent. I love this school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
