Heritage Heights Academy

Summary:

Heritage Heights Academy is a public charter elementary and middle school serving grades K-8 in Centennial, Colorado, which is part of the Cherry Creek School District. With a diverse student population, Heritage Heights Academy consistently outperforms the district and state in academic performance, particularly in math, science, and English language arts.

Heritage Heights Academy's academic excellence is evident in its CMAS test scores, which show that 50.9% of students were proficient or better in math, compared to 40.8% for the Cherry Creek School District and 34.2% for Colorado. In English language arts, 47.3% of students were proficient or better, surpassing the district's 48.3% and the state's 44.1%. The school also excels in science, with 46.9% of 5th graders and 55.2% of 8th graders scoring proficient or better. Despite having a relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, Heritage Heights Academy ranks 9th out of 365 Colorado elementary schools for its performance with low socioeconomic status students.

While Heritage Heights Academy outperforms nearby schools like Rolling Hills Elementary and Trails West Elementary in academic metrics, some of these neighboring schools also demonstrate strong performance. This suggests that factors beyond just the school district, such as school-specific programs, resources, and teaching practices, may be influencing student outcomes. Overall, Heritage Heights Academy's consistent academic excellence, socioeconomic diversity, and low student-teacher ratio make it a standout choice for families in the Centennial area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote They are complacent in continuing with allowing racism at this school. The teachers, dean of Culture, principal and board members all do not care nor respect the diverse cultural communities we have. They allowing Native American "costume dress up In "support" of history day.... that is a mockery and disrespectful. Does the school care to change? No they have done nothing. Close Quote

Open Quote My son is a 1st grader at HHA and we love it. My son was having trouble reading at the beginning of the year they understood what he needed to get him back on track and with my help and the schools help he is back on track and thriving. I love the teachers, i love the education he is getting as he is learning so much. I love that it goes though 8th grade and that it is smaller than the neighborhood elementary school. The teachers are enthusiastic and love all the students. Close Quote

Open Quote This school needs new leadership. My students' class did not get through the whole Math curriculum, and then they wanted me to pay $300 for a summer "catch up" math class. When I asked if I could work with my student over the summer to catch them up, I was told they would NOT be placed in the appropriate class even if they tested and where capable of it- which is the whole point of having ability grouping. Lots of teacher turnover and lots of student turnover. Claims to be a love an logic school, but the discipline is poor. I think this school could be so great with new leadership. Close Quote

Open Quote HHA is a fantastic young charter school that provides a classical core knowledge education with an emphasis on character development. They use Singapore Math and Riggs and it is clearly working as the test scores for the students have been increasing each year. The school is small and each child is valued as an individual. Days always start with Morning Meetings. These first 20 minutes of the morning, the children sit or stand in a circle, discuss character traits, share good things with each other, talk about any problems they might be having and they work collectively to solve them or just encourage one another. It's this positive community building that really makes the school special. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
