Coal Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Coal Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school in Louisville, Colorado, serving 330 students in grades PK-5 and part of the highly-ranked Boulder Valley School District.

Coal Creek Elementary consistently ranks in the top 25% of Colorado elementary schools, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's academic performance is particularly strong, with students outperforming state and district averages in CMAS/English Language Arts and CMAS/Math. Notably, Coal Creek's 3rd-grade students achieved 69.1% proficiency in CMAS/English Language Arts and 70.9% in CMAS/Math, significantly higher than the state and district. Additionally, the school's low-income students (27.58% free/reduced lunch) performed remarkably well, ranking 23rd out of 265 Colorado elementary schools in this subgroup. However, the school's gifted and talented program, which previously ranked 4th out of 84 Colorado elementary schools, has seen a decline in recent years, suggesting a need for evaluation and potential program improvements.

While Coal Creek Elementary has maintained consistently high academic performance, the school's racial makeup is significantly less diverse compared to nearby schools like Alicia Sanchez International School, which has only 23.62% white students compared to Coal Creek's 77.27%. This racial disparity may indicate a need to examine the school's enrollment policies and outreach efforts to ensure equitable access for all students in the community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is a excellent school! I don't understand why people all hate this school. It has a great educational system, and that review was from 8 years ago, when it didn't have counselors. Now a lot of the school has different teachers who are all nice. Close Quote

Open Quote When entering this school, my child had an IEP. He did not receive the help that he needed and the school gave him the bare minimum of what was required by law in order to help him succeed, which wasn't nearly enough for my child. The principal of this school did nothing to help my special needs child and went out of his way to make us feel unwelcome. Additionally, the ILC teachers, the school counselor, and the mainstream classroom teacher encouraged the other children to shun my child because he is a different sort of learner.

If you have a child with special needs, I suggest searching out a different school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
