Rise

Summary:

Rise is a small elementary school in Lancaster, California that serves grades K-8, with a very low student population of only 15 students. Unfortunately, this school is significantly underperforming compared to its peers and the state as a whole.

Rise has extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 47.4% to 90.9% over the past few years, which is much higher than the 30-53.9% rates at nearby schools. The school's test scores are also alarmingly low, with only 2.7% of students proficient in English Language Arts and 2.63% proficient in math, compared to 22.8% and 13.7% for the Lancaster Elementary district, respectively. Rise also has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 66.67% to 100%, higher than the 88.43-95.63% range of nearby schools.

Despite having a very low student-teacher ratio of 5.3 to 10.8, Rise has consistently performed poorly on standardized tests, ranking near the bottom of California elementary schools for many years. This suggests that the school's high poverty levels, small size, and other challenges may be contributing factors to its low academic performance. Compared to the higher-performing nearby schools like iLEAD Lancaster Charter and Linda Verde Elementary, Rise may need targeted intervention and support from the Lancaster Elementary district to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
