Heritage Intermediate

Summary:

Heritage Intermediate is a public middle school located in Fontana, California, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,163 students. It is part of the Etiwanda Elementary School District, which is ranked 186 out of 1,568 districts in California and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Heritage Intermediate consistently ranks in the top 20-25% of California middle schools, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance on Smarter Balanced Assessments is notably higher than the state average across all grade levels and subject areas, with proficiency rates ranging from 56.79% to 66.75% in ELA and 40.46% to 46.58% in Math, compared to the state averages of 45.82% to 45.95% and 33.83% to 31.57%, respectively. Heritage Intermediate also excels in serving certain student subgroups, particularly African American and Hispanic students, who rank in the top 5-20% of California middle schools in these categories. However, the school's chronic absenteeism rate has increased significantly, from 4.6% in 2018-2019 to 18.5% in 2022-2023, which is an area of concern.

Compared to nearby schools, Heritage Intermediate's academic performance is generally stronger than the Fontana Unified School District schools, but the nearby Etiwanda Elementary District schools, such as Day Creek Intermediate and Summit Intermediate, outperform Heritage Intermediate across most academic measures. Despite the high percentage of economically disadvantaged students at Heritage Intermediate, the school's academic performance remains strong, suggesting effective strategies for supporting these students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I found the teachers at Heritage to have a genuine interest in helping many of the children develope to their best potential. I am happy to say that I could not have asked for a better place to send my son and daughter. I hear some other parents make complaints, but it's usually the same people every year that I see make excuses for their kids poor study habits and their own lack of attention to their kids school work.

As an active parent, I take time to see after my child's education and I can honestly say that the Principle, teachers and staff are great! My children aren't the brightest stars out there, but it certainly makes a huge difference when you have some shinning lights to help guide them and that's what I see. My kids will be graduating and moving on, and I feel good about their years at Heritage.
It also recieved a Distinguished school and I can see why.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
