Ysabel Barnett Elementary

Summary:

Ysabel Barnett Elementary is a public elementary school located in Temecula, CA, serving 708 students in grades K-5. It is part of the Temecula Valley Unified School District, which is ranked 332 out of 1568 districts in California and has a 4-star rating.

Ysabel Barnett Elementary has consistently maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade, ranking between the 542nd and 1258th best elementary schools in California. The school outperforms the district and state in proficiency rates for Smarter Balanced Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics, with particularly strong performance among its Hispanic and disabled student populations. However, the school's Asian and White student populations have lower rankings compared to other subgroups, indicating an achievement gap that could be addressed. Additionally, Ysabel Barnett Elementary has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 8.0% in 2018-2019 to 24.1% in 2022-2023, which is an area of concern.

Compared to nearby schools in the Temecula Valley Unified School District, Vail Elementary and Temecula Elementary, Ysabel Barnett Elementary generally outperforms them in academic proficiency rates. However, Alamos Elementary performs on par or better than Ysabel Barnett in several academic areas. Additionally, the school serves a relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients (25% in 2022-2023), suggesting it may serve a more affluent student population, which could contribute to its stronger academic performance. Interestingly, Temecula International Academy, a public charter school located near Ysabel Barnett Elementary, outperforms the district and state averages in several academic areas, highlighting the potential for alternative educational models to achieve high levels of academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We were at BES for 4 years before we moved out of state. This was the best school my kids could have gone to. I am a High school educator and I was very happy with the teachers and caring community that BES provides for its students. When we move back to California I will make sure my other little one goes to BES. Amazing school!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
