Village Meadows Elementary School

Summary:

Village Meadows Elementary School is a public elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona, serving 444 students in grades PK-6 and is part of the Deer Valley Unified District. The school has a diverse student population, with 31.08% White, 10.81% African American, 47.52% Hispanic, 2.03% Asian, 3.6% Native American, and 4.95% two or more races.

While Village Meadows Elementary School's performance on state assessments is generally below the district and state averages across grade levels and subject areas, the school has some strengths. Its English Language Learner and Special Education students have performed relatively well, ranking in the top 20-40% of Arizona elementary schools. Additionally, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and homeless students have also performed better than the overall student population, ranking in the top 20-25% of Arizona elementary schools. However, the school's performance lags behind the high-performing Reid Traditional Schools and Hearn Academy in the area.

Despite the school's challenges, Village Meadows Elementary School has a diverse student population and provides support for its low-income and English Language Learner students, who have performed better than their peers statewide. The school's performance is generally on par with other Deer Valley Unified District schools, but there is room for improvement, especially in mathematics and science.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If you have a special needs student, choose any school but here! My special needs child is 6 years old, still wears a diaper, is developmentally delayed with autistic tendancies and gets suspended because the "principal" does not have time to deal wth anyone "special", she only likes the "perfect" students! Run from this school, it has been nothing but a nightmare! Good luck trying to get anyone over her head to call back as the "superintendent" refuses to take calls unless you go through 8 bazillion people before him, but none of them will return a call. So now I have to contact the State Superintendent of Public Schools & the Governor's Office to get my little guy an education. I can't get a report sent home of what happened! If they don't want to educate him, then DVUSD should let me choose a school and foot the bill! The school will be calling each day and suspending a 6 year old because he screamed, could not keep his hands to himself, threw a shoe! These people are to be trained to accomodate special needs, but they are not! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
