Cactus View Elementary School

Summary:

Cactus View Elementary School is a public elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona, serving 562 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Paradise Valley Unified District, which is ranked 108 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cactus View Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Arizona elementary schools, maintaining a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past 10 years. The school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on state assessments, is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Cactus View's 3rd-grade English Language Arts proficiency rate was 44%, compared to 53% for the district and 39% for the state. However, the school's Native American and English Language Learner students have performed relatively better compared to their peers at other Arizona elementary schools.

Cactus View's performance is generally lower than the nearby Echo Mountain Primary School and Eagle Ridge Elementary School in the Paradise Valley Unified District, as well as the nearby Kaleidoscope School and Hearn Academy charter schools, which have higher academic proficiency rates and better overall rankings. Despite these challenges, Cactus View's increased per-student spending and stable student-teacher ratio suggest that the school has the resources to potentially implement effective strategies to support student learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If I could use a lower rating I would.
My son has been in need of testing for possible special education purposes and this SCHOOL FORGOT ABOUT HIM!!
Please, if you have concerns for your child and may need a little extra help, do not confide in this school. My son had been scheduled 2 years ago and they pulled me in for “behavior” issues. At this meeting I asked for the paper I had already signed to start testing and what were the results? The entire staff looked at each other in confusion. An employee at the school went into the files and found the paper that had been signed back in the 3rd grade. My son is in 5th this year. If I may quote his words, “ The energy felt very negative and my teacher is angry and yelling all the time.”
Take your babies to another school.
Thank you. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
