C J Jorgensen School

Summary:

C J Jorgensen School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Phoenix, Arizona, with a student population of 285 that is predominantly Hispanic (93.68%). The school is part of the Roosevelt Elementary District, which is ranked 455 out of 540 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite spending a relatively high amount per student ($12,948 in 2021-2022), C J Jorgensen School consistently ranks in the bottom 20% of Arizona elementary schools, with only 8% of 5th graders proficient in science in 2022-2023, compared to 34% statewide. The school's dropout rates are relatively low, ranging from 0% to 1.4% over the past several years, but its academic performance on state assessments is significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels and subject areas. This suggests that factors beyond just funding and resources may be contributing to the school's persistent low performance.

The challenges faced by C J Jorgensen School are not unique, as nearby schools in the Roosevelt Elementary District, such as John R Davis School and Sunland Elementary School, also struggle with low academic performance and high percentages of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This suggests that the issues at C J Jorgensen School may be systemic within the district, and addressing them will require a comprehensive approach that considers the unique needs of the school's predominantly Hispanic and low-income student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Fire Everyone including Superintendent and start over. Create a culture of positivity and not hostility or toxicity. This is by far one of the worst experiences in the place. Human Resources has a reputation of bullying employees who speak out, stifling dissent, using intimidation, hostility and dissent to get their agendas done. Look up the news about this district and you will see why they can't keep teachers. It is a very trashy and low brow place to work. The students don't respect the teachers. Teachers often don't respect each other. Administrators and parents often blame teachers for everything from discipline to academics. You name it. Teachers' job is to take blame no matter where it comes. Teachers are fodder in this district. Students are dollar signs. Administrators provide little to no support. These are the type of things that dominate the news for this district: Roosevelt School District's finances a mess, jobs lost -PHOENIX SCHOOLS’ ROOSEVELT DISTRICT IN SERIOUS TROUBLE WITH ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Roosevelt school district educators accuse superintendent of false, crude remarks Educators demand Roosevelt Superintendent "step aside" during investigation This district is extremely corrupted from inside out. If you are lured in by the higher salary, understood, but know that you probably won't be around to enjoy all of it or have a miserable life doing so!! This place is horrible!! You will regret working here. I do. Run! You will be happier you did, even if you are working for less!! This place is so dysfunctional and chaotic!! Just watch a school in one year. The one school I worked, had around an 80 to 85 turnover from last year to this year!! Now I know why, the hard way. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
