Longview Elementary School

Summary:

Longview Elementary School is a public school located in Phoenix, Arizona, serving grades PK-8 with a student population of 466. The school is part of the Osborn Elementary District, which is ranked 443 out of 540 districts in Arizona and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Longview Elementary School faces significant challenges in academic performance, particularly for its predominantly Hispanic (63.52%) and economically disadvantaged (76.82% eligible for free or reduced-price lunch) student population. The school consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Arizona elementary schools, with only 11-31% of students proficient in English Language Arts and Mathematics, compared to state averages of 41-45%. Longview's performance is especially low for Hispanic, Native American, and English Language Learner student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 20-30% of Arizona schools for these groups. The school's low academic performance is coupled with a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 16.7 and lower-than-average spending per student, ranging from $9,283 to $10,898 in recent years.

Interestingly, nearby schools in the area have varying levels of performance. Montecito Community School, another Osborn Elementary District school, has a similar high percentage of economically disadvantaged students but even lower academic performance than Longview. In contrast, charter schools like Phoenix Modern and BASIS Phoenix Central Primary, located within a mile of Longview, have significantly higher academic performance and rankings, despite serving diverse student populations. Loma Linda Elementary, a Creighton Elementary District school, also struggles academically, ranking in the bottom 5% of Arizona elementary schools.

I like that my children attend Osborm district because they have a very good progam for children and for parents. At O.M.S they have great services for tutoring for children who need it. They also have very good programs for children who are outstanding in math. They also have help for children who are struggling academically. I like Longview school because they have band, many coffee talk sessions for parents, and many educational and informational classes for parents. What I dont like is that parents need to learn the proper place for parking and pick up. I I like that the school calls to let me know when there is a PTO meeting.
Thank you to the teachers for their time and patience to understand me. Thank you to teachers and the district for all of your support for our children and informing parents.
Thank you Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
