Summit Innovations School

Summary:

Summit Innovations School is a small public high school in Jackson, Wyoming, serving grades 9-12 and part of the Teton County School District #1, which is ranked 12th out of 42 districts in the state.

While Summit Innovations School has a very low student-teacher ratio of 5.2 to 6.1 students per teacher, significantly lower than the 13.4 ratio at the nearby Jackson Hole High School, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Wyoming high schools, ranging from 52nd to 72nd out of 80 schools in recent years. Its test scores in English Language Arts (28.6%) and Science (22.2%) are also significantly lower than the district and state averages. The school's academic performance has been inconsistent, with a 1-star or 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating below-average performance compared to other schools in the state.

The small size of Summit Innovations School, with only 34 students, suggests a specialized or alternative educational approach, and the higher per-student spending, ranging from $16,029 to $28,583, may indicate a focus on personalized instruction and support. However, the incomplete test score data makes it challenging to fully assess the school's effectiveness and the factors contributing to its unique position within the Teton County School District #1.

Open Quote Teachers are really nice and very helpful. The work is easy for the most part, but the system not including schoolwork is so dumb. This is honestly the worst school I ever went to. If you have a bad morning and you just want to be alone before school, the principal will force you to talk about it and no matter what the problem is, whether it’s you not feeling good, or if you seem off in any way when you’re literally fine, the principal will automatically take your phone, when your phone most likely had nothing to do with why you seemed off or why you’re not good. They make you turn your phone in every day in the morning and you don’t get it back until the end of the day and it doesn’t make sense. I don’t recommend this school unless you’re ready to have the worst years of your life. I’m so happy I graduated and I hope to never see that principal ever again. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
