Laramie Montessori Charter School

Summary:

Laramie Montessori Charter School is an elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Laramie, Wyoming, part of the Albany County School District #1, which is ranked 13 out of 42 school districts in the state. With just 95 students enrolled, Laramie Montessori Charter School has struggled to keep up with its higher-performing peers in the district.

The school's test scores are significantly lower than the district and state averages, with only 43.8% of 3rd graders proficient in English Language Arts and just 12.5% proficient in Mathematics, compared to 62% and 64.4% for the district, respectively. Laramie Montessori Charter School's statewide ranking has also declined over the past decade, currently placing 106th out of 147 elementary schools in Wyoming. The school serves a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 30-39%, compared to the district average of 25-30%.

While Laramie Montessori Charter School has a lower student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending than the district average, these factors do not seem to be translating into better academic outcomes. The school's performance lags significantly behind nearby public schools in the Albany County School District #1, such as Snowy Range Academy, Velma Linford Elementary, and Indian Paintbrush Elementary, which have much higher proficiency rates and statewide rankings.

Open Quote My daughter started at Montessori after years at another local charter schools. The difference is amazing. She has regained her love of school and learning. Also they do a much better job of teaching self regulation and responsibility, so her behavior has actually improved over when she was in the much stricter school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
