Oak Glen High School

Summary:

Oak Glen High School is a public high school serving 486 students in grades 9-12 in New Cumberland, West Virginia, part of the Hancock County Schools district, which is ranked 4th out of 55 districts in the state.

Oak Glen High School stands out for its strong academic performance, consistently outpacing state and district averages in proficiency rates for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The school particularly excels in supporting specific student subgroups, ranking 9th in the state for male students, 2nd for special education students, and 2nd for multi-racial students. Compared to nearby Brooke High School and Weir High School, Oak Glen High School maintains a higher statewide ranking and better academic metrics.

However, the school's demographics raise some concerns, as it has a significantly higher percentage of white students (96.71%) compared to the state average and nearby schools. This lack of diversity could be an area for the school to address. Additionally, while Oak Glen High School performs well overall, its ranking for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds is relatively low, indicating that the school may face challenges in supporting these students effectively.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Former student class of 2016, parent of an 18 month daughter. My time during OGHS and OGHS I have witnessed teachers and staff acting inappropriate and perverted towards students on multiple occasions. When I try to do the right thing and tell somebody they act like I’m crazy and say they’ll look in to it but nothing would ever be done about it and like they are all in on some plot.. come to find out today I look on Facebook and see that one of the many teachers at Oak glen was caught for raping and molesting students.. Not sure if this is the case for other schools. I just want others to beware and bring this to somebody’s attention that we need people out of the loop to actually do something and not just say they’ll do something. Reasons like this is why others including myself will NOT be letting my child attend any sort of public or private schools. She will have a proper non-corrupt education, safe from shooters, mentally disturbed children, and worst of all, the people that promised to ensure children’s safety, the teachers and staff.. DO SOMETHING. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
