Wilson Elementary

Summary:

Wilson Elementary is a public elementary school located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 193 students. The school is part of the Wauwatosa School District, which is ranked 96 out of 428 districts in Wisconsin and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wilson Elementary consistently ranks among the top Wisconsin elementary schools, with a current ranking of 263 out of 1,061 schools for the 2023-2024 school year. The school's academic performance is particularly strong in mathematics, with 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students outperforming the Wauwatosa School District and the state of Wisconsin in the percentage of students proficient or better on the Forward Exam. However, the school struggles with the performance of low socioeconomic status (SES) students, ranking 749th out of 866 Wisconsin elementary schools in this subgroup for the 2023-2024 school year.

When compared to nearby schools, Roosevelt Elementary and Jefferson Elementary, which also rank highly in the state, Wilson Elementary performs well. However, the school lags behind the nearby Wauwatosa STEM public charter school in academic performance, particularly in the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and Mathematics. This suggests that the more affluent student population at Wilson Elementary, as indicated by its relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, may contribute to its strong academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is too small, only one class room per grade. It doesn't focus much on academic achievement for kids, especially science and social studies. I guess it depends a lot on the teachers. Unfortunately we had one really laid back and focused more on social development, even for upper elementary level at the dispense of academic achievement. They didn't finish all content covered state curriculum for social studies and science... On the positive notes, Mrs Kotlarek in K4 room is fabulous! It is small so kids know each other well. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
