Lakewood Elementary

Summary:

Lakewood Elementary is a public elementary school located in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, serving grades PK-8 with a student population of 278. The school is part of the Twin Lakes #4 School District, which is ranked 350 out of 428 districts in Wisconsin and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakewood Elementary faces several challenges, including lower academic performance compared to the state and district averages, particularly in the areas of 4th and 7th grade English Language Arts, as well as 7th grade Mathematics. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with male students and white students performing better than the overall school, while special education students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds struggle. Additionally, Lakewood Elementary has experienced relatively high dropout rates and chronic absenteeism, which may be contributing to its academic challenges.

Interestingly, Lakewood Elementary's performance is generally lower than the nearby schools, such as Winkler Elementary, Riverview Elementary, and Randall Consolidated School, which all have higher academic proficiency rates and better overall rankings. Despite spending more per student than the nearby schools, Lakewood Elementary's issues do not appear to be solely related to funding, and the high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds may be a contributing factor to the school's struggles.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Administration is bad. They lose 10+ teachers each year due to bad work conditions. Admin allows students to run the school- kids give teachers concussions, broken noses, and bite them without consequence because school is scared to lose enrollment which is already severely low. Students open enroll elsewhere for many reasons. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
