Elk Ridge Elementary

Summary:

Elk Ridge Elementary is a public elementary school located in Buckley, Washington, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 595 students. The school is part of the White River School District, which is ranked 31 out of 247 districts in Washington and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Elk Ridge Elementary consistently performs above the state average in SBAC/English Language Arts and SBAC/Math assessments across all grade levels, with particularly strong performance in 5th grade. The school's proficiency rates in the 2023-2024 school year were 63.14% in ELA and 62.33% in Math, compared to the state averages of 52.63% and 41.68%, respectively. Elk Ridge Elementary also excels in supporting its Hispanic and Special Education student subgroups, often ranking in the top 100 schools in the state for these groups. In contrast, the school has a relatively homogeneous student population, with a majority (77.31%) of White students, which is lower than the state average.

Elk Ridge Elementary's higher per-student spending of $15,224 and lower student-teacher ratio of 17.9 students per teacher suggest that the school has access to significant resources, which may contribute to its strong academic performance. However, the school's lack of racial diversity may be an area for further exploration and potential improvement. Overall, Elk Ridge Elementary appears to be a high-performing school that could serve as a model for other schools in the region, particularly in supporting the academic achievement of its Hispanic and Special Education students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son had a very bad experience at this school he was in the special education program at this school. They sent him and many other students home at 11/12 in the afternoon because they disrupted class in the afternoon which meant they were getting less then two hours of instruction. They are a full restraint school and if you don’t agree you have to be there in 15 minutes to get your child or law enforcement could be called, just the manipulation by staff in general is so toxic.
It’s been more then two years since I removed him and my coworker just had a similar situation and pulled their child out and homeschooled. My son did a 180 on his education despite all of the negative things they wrote in his exit report he learned to read at his new school is in general education for a large chunk of the day they told me it was illegal for the other school district to send him home so early and the way they wrote it in the paper work was that it was my insistence when they didn’t give me a choice. The staff turnover was crazy, our kindergarten year there was only 4/5 returning teachers and our 1st grade year there was the same, can you image the majority of teachers only staying one year! The fact that administration couldn’t see that as a huge red flag shows that it’s district wide! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
