Robert Frost Elementary

Summary:

Robert Frost Elementary is a public elementary school in Kirkland, Washington, serving 404 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Lake Washington School District, which is ranked 4 out of 247 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating.

Robert Frost Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (29.46%) and Asian (10.89%) students. However, the school's overall academic performance, as measured by test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages, particularly in math. This is despite the school's relatively high per-student spending of $21,665, which is higher than the district average. The school's performance for specific student subgroups, such as White and Asian students, is more competitive with the district and state, but the school struggles to support the academic achievement of Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students.

Neighboring schools like Mark Twain Elementary, Henry David Thoreau Elementary, and Carl Sandburg Elementary generally outperform Robert Frost Elementary in academic measures, despite being part of the same school district. These schools have a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which may contribute to their stronger academic outcomes. The higher funding and resources available to Robert Frost Elementary present an opportunity to address the academic needs of all student groups, particularly those who are underperforming.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is an excellent school but scores are very misleading. This school is in North Kirkland near the border with Bothell. As a result, there are two distinction populations - highly educated professionals as well as and poorer, low-income folks.

The scores are completely different between these two populations - if you look at greatschools.com, you'll see that the ranking for non low income students is 8 or 9. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
