Kettle Falls Elementary School

Summary:

Kettle Falls Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-4 in Kettle Falls, Washington, with a student population of 304 as of the 2022-2023 school year. However, the school has consistently underperformed compared to state and district averages on standardized tests, with only 12.84% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 23.85% proficient in math, significantly lower than the state averages.

Kettle Falls Elementary has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 61.84% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, which is much higher than the state average. Additionally, the school has a relatively homogeneous student population, with 86.18% of students identifying as White, higher than the state average. These demographic factors may be contributing to the school's underperformance, as nearby schools like Orient Elementary and Onion Creek Elementary have higher academic performance and lower percentages of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

Kettle Falls Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Washington elementary schools, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger in the 2023-2024 school year. The school's academic performance has declined over the past several years, and the impact of fluctuations in per-student spending on the school's resources and ability to support student learning is unclear. Addressing these challenges will require a comprehensive approach that considers the unique needs of the school's student population and the resources available to support their learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Some of staff is friendly and I would say hold themselves at a higher standard when communicating with parents, and children. How ever the office/front desk ladies often take certain disapproving, demeaning, or just down right rude tones and looks. The fact that the progress of learning has dropped so dramatically since 2010 is sad. My son is in K and other is in 4th. I've have very little communication with teachers, or speech therapist. Very disappointing. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
