Lakeland Elementary School

Summary:

Lakeland Elementary School is a public elementary school in Auburn, Washington, serving 404 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Federal Way School District, which is ranked 213 out of 247 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakeland Elementary has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (23.27%) and Asian (13.12%) students compared to surrounding schools. However, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Washington elementary schools, with a 1-2 star rating from SchoolDigger. Lakeland's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (39.11%) and Math (38.19%) are lower than the state and district averages, particularly for White and Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) students. Interestingly, the school's Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students perform relatively better, ranking in the top 30-40% of schools. With a high percentage of students (63.61%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, Lakeland serves a significant population of students from low-income families.

The nearby Northwood Elementary and Evergreen Heights Elementary schools demonstrate higher academic performance and school ratings, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that Lakeland could learn from the practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools to address its own challenges, such as the achievement gaps and the need to optimize resource allocation to support student learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote When we moved to Federal Way my son had attended Highline school dist. He was doing poorly in the Highline school dist. When he started attending Lakeland there was a huge difference in the teachers and the atmosphere for this school. Right away I noticed a difference in his attitude towards school and the desire to learn. Since he started in the 3rd grade and now is in 6th grade in the Cambridge Program. Last year for his 5th grade WASL he scored 522 on his math and 426 in reading!! We have moved from the school zone but I still choice my 1st grader in there and drive him everyday to school. I will do the same for my youngest who will be in kindergarten next year. This is the best school ever, from the teacher's to the principle and the great office staff. We love you guys thanks for the last 4 yrs!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
