Camelot Elementary School

Summary:

Camelot Elementary School is a public elementary school in Auburn, Washington, serving 325 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Federal Way School District.

Camelot Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (24.92%) and Pacific Islander (5.54%) students. While the school's test scores are generally higher than the Federal Way School District average, they are still lower than the state average, with 44.88% of Camelot students proficient or better in SBAC/English Language Arts, compared to 35.31% for the district and 52.63% for the state. Camelot also has a high percentage of students (69.23%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families. The school's spending per student has fluctuated, ranging from $12,143 in 2019-2020 to $23,465 in 2021-2022, which is higher than nearby schools. Camelot has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.3 to 15.1 over the past few years, lower than most of the nearby schools such as Evergreen Heights Elementary and Nautilus K-8 School.

Camelot's diverse student population and lower academic performance compared to the state average suggest both challenges and opportunities for the school. The high proportion of students from low-income families may require targeted support, while the school's relatively low student-teacher ratio could be leveraged to improve student outcomes. Camelot's unique characteristics, such as its diverse student body and fluctuating spending, indicate that the school may be facing distinct challenges and could benefit from learning from the best practices of higher-performing nearby schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I love this school! My son is in the Special Educational program here and I couldn't be happier! I love his teachers, I love the office staff, I can't really say enough about how happy this school makes me. I really like how the bus drivers do not let the kids off the buses till teachers meet them at the curb. There is always an Auburn school district safety patrol officer out in the parking lot, too. I know my son is safe here. The teachers really care! My son's teacher always comes out to my car when I am picking up my son and tells me how his day went. Talk about class A treatment! The communication with parents is outstanding! It is not all about the bottom line here, but about the child as a whole. The school is designed not to negatively reprimand the students, but they use positive reinforcement to get the results they want. They truly go the extra mile here. My son has never been happier. He loves his school and wants to go every day. Schools like this are a rarity! I highly recommend this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
